Red Oak Express’ Annual Chili Cook-off
October 25 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
This year’s event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the last home football game (against Atlantic), Friday, Oct. 25, at the Red Oak Fire station. The local non-profit to receive this year’s proceeds will be the Southwest Iowa Squadron of Heroes.
There is a $25 registration fee, which needs to be paid at or before the event. Participants are responsible for preparing about 4.5 gallons (a roaster) of chili. Chili is to be ready to serve by 5 p.m. Participants may begin setting up at 3:30 p.m. Each table is to provide their own serving utensils and an extension cord. With the event being Superhero themed this year, participants may also decorate their table and wear costumes in relation to the theme. The Express will provide each participant a table, two chairs, identification sign, donation canister for the People’s Choice votes, cheese, crackers, sour cream, cups, bowls, spoons and napkins.
Three awards will be awarded for two categories: Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice. The People’s Choice winner is determined by the amount of money in each canister. This year’s judges are Nick Johansen, Rocky Rocca and Jed Westover.
